Merry Hell

Multi-award-winning Merry Hell offer joyful, uplifting folk-rock, with a message of hope for troubled times. Native to the North-West of England, the 8-piece musical charabanc emerged from the embers of the much-loved folk-punk band The Tansads, before developing a life and feel all of its own. Through 6 well-received albums and hundreds of gigs, they’ve offered voices of hope and beacons of light to anyone valuing both melody and positive humanity.

Merry Hell’s live appearances have won many admirers, they are also currently holders of Folking.com's Best Live Band Award. Their appeal is to both established fans and audiences who are new to the band – the band’s superpower is to write and perform songs that are almost immediately accessible, making Merry Hell gigs a shared and uplifting experience with great audience participation - a recent review by a national radio DJ, referred to 'every performance a celebration'.

The group performs as either a full electric 8-piece or a slimmed down, more acoustic 6-piece – still offering all the songs, all the spirit and all the energy of the larger band – but able to perform on smaller stages and in smaller spaces.

Emergency Lullabies, their latest studio album, gained wonderful reviews, significant airplay and a place in the UK Official Folk Chart, with the 2021 single When We Meet Again hitting No.8 in the USA Folk Radio charts. The recent compilation double album, Let The Music Speak For Itself hit the Top 10 of the Official Folk Chart, the Top 3 of the worldwide Bandcamp chart and, like all their previous albums, was a No.1 best seller on Amazon’s Folk Chart.

The band have just added fiddle player Simon Swarbrick to the line-up, nephew of the Fairport Convention legend Dave Swarbrick – completing a circle, as Swarb contributed a fiddle part to a track on Merry Hell’s second album.

All of this goes to show that, in booking Merry Hell, you are getting a band that will draw an audience and entertain them but will also support gig promoters, via their large and highly engaged social media platforms.
